About Texture Converter: Resizer, Packer & Replacer

  • Tools, Systems & Learning > Development Tools & Automation
The Texture Converter solves the headache of managing massive file footprints and VRAM bloat when constructing environments using modular kits and third-party asset packs. While optimization discussions usually focus heavily on polygon counts and active draw calls, an unmanaged VRAM footprint will often choke target hardware long before geometry becomes the bottleneck. This pipeline-agnostic toolkit provides multithreaded and GPU-accelerated tools to batch-resize oversized maps, standardize file formats, mathematically pack distinct color channels into unified master textures, and physically rewrite project data files to consolidate optimized dependencies without breaking scene references. The Batch Resizer and Converter processes large queues of source textures to universally resize them, pad them to standard Power-of-Two dimensions, and enforce uniform import configurations across varying asset tiers. Features include constraint-based sizing with literal percentage scaling or Target Longest Edge clamping, format and color space control for output to compressed png or fast-lookup tga formats, POT padding and alignment for GPU block compression compatibility, and HDR to LDR conversion for pushing 32-bit floating-point data into standard 8-bit files. The GPU PBR Channel Packer extracts data from up to four separate images and injects them into the distinct Red, Green, Blue, and Alpha channels of a single master texture natively on the graphics card. Features include auto-assign and workflow presets that parse common file suffixes, constants for missing maps, live preview with channel isolation, and resolution scaling for differing source input resolutions. The dependency-rewiring feature bypasses standard Unity APIs and asynchronously reads and modifies raw text of project files, requiring Force Text serialization mode. The replacement mode permanently alters Materials, Prefabs, and Scene files to point to new textures. The batch resizer is capped at processing a maximum of 300 textures per run with memory management intervals. The GPU PBR Packer requires all inputs to share the exact same aspect ratio. Assets residing within standard Unity Packages are treated as read-only and cannot be destructively modified.
