About Upgrade Sentinel
Unity 6 is the most disruptive release in years:
- Mono is being removed in favor of CoreCLR — reflection-heavy code, P/Invoke and BinaryFormatter break silently.
- Fast Enter Play Mode becomes the default — static state that used to reset on every Play now survives it.
- The Built-In Render Pipeline is deprecated — Surface Shaders have no upgrade path.
Upgrade Sentinel scans your project BEFORE you migrate and tells you exactly which files, lines and settings will cause trouble — with a plain-English explanation of why and what to do about it, plus a readiness score you can track over time.
WHAT IT CHECKS (18 rules)
- Deprecated APIs: FindObjectOfType, GameObject.Find, graphics format changes
- CoreCLR risks: BinaryFormatter, DllImport, debugger attributes, fragile static constructors
- Domain-reload safety: mutable static fields, singletons and static events that break under Fast Enter Play Mode
- Project settings: scripting backend, Burst embedding, Enter Play Mode options, API compatibility level
- Render pipeline: Surface Shaders and materials referencing incompatible built-in shaders
HIGHLIGHTS
- One-click scan from Window → Upgrade Sentinel, no configuration needed
- Click any finding to jump straight to the offending line in your IDE
- Readiness score (0–100) to measure progress across sprints, with per-category breakdown
- Ignore findings per file; export a full HTML report as a migration baseline
- Third-party folders excluded by default
- Works on projects that don't even compile — pure syntax analysis, zero project pollution
- Runs fully offline; your code never leaves your machine
A built-in demo scene generator (Tools → Upgrade Sentinel → Create Demo Scene) lets you see the tool in action in seconds.
PERFECT FOR
Solo devs and small teams planning their Unity 6 / CoreCLR migration, studios auditing legacy projects before an LTS switch, and anyone who has ever lost a week to "it worked before I upgraded".
