About Universal Asset Preview Studio - Thumbnails, Catalogs & Asset QA
Tools, Systems & Learning > Development Tools & Automation
Browse, preview, validate, compare and document Unity project assets from a single dockable Editor window. Universal Asset Preview Studio turns repetitive release‑preparation work into a consistent workflow.\n\nAsset browser – search the whole project, filter by type, status, advanced queries, use favorites, collections, tags, saved searches, recent assets and pinned comparisons. Choose from grid, list, compare, presentation, export, dependency graph, validation and audit views. All views are virtualized for large projects.\n\nLive previews – configurable preview with yaw, pitch, field of view, padding, render mode, environment, animation scrub, transparency, background color, key/fill light. Supports prefabs, meshes, materials, textures, sprites, audio, animations, particle systems, UI prefabs, graph‑style assets. Extend with custom providers via SDK.\n\nThumbnail generation – create consistent thumbnails for selections or entire result sets. Cached thumbnails can overlay the Project window. Cache includes metadata handling, invalid‑entry cleanup, corrupt‑entry tracking, configurable cache‑budget actions and low‑memory limits.\n\nCatalogs, contact sheets and reports – export contact sheets, documentation catalogs (with optional thumbnails), comparison sheets, dependency reports, validation reports and audit reports. Structured output formats: JSON, CSV, Markdown, HTML. Media export: bounded PNG frame sequences with manifest, native GIF, optional WebP/MP4 via external encoder, turntable contact sheets.\n\nCustom validation profiles – define repeatable “ready” criteria. Built‑in profiles cover common workflows; a profile editor lets you set thresholds, save reusable assets, apply rules across a team and run checks manually or automated. Release readiness becomes a checkable policy.\n\nAsset comparison – side‑by‑side view of up to four assets. Export results as Markdown comparison reports or PNG visual comparison sheets. Pinned comparisons remember review sets.\n\nDependency graph and reference inspection – visual graph of incoming/outgoing asset references. Export to Markdown, DOT or SVG. Useful for checking dependencies and ensuring deleted references are removed.\n\nPackage and release audits – built‑in workflows for package audit, release‑readiness audit, clean‑import audit and optional addressables audit. All workflows run without the Addressables package installed.\n\nTeam features – favorites, tags, collections, saved searches, recent assets, pinned comparisons, review assignments and a source‑control friendly workspace keep organization and review state shared without a hosted service.\n\nBatchmode and CI automation – command‑line entry points expose the same workflows used in the Editor. Automated pipelines can generate contact sheets, catalogs, reports, validation results and audit output. Interactive and automated paths use identical settings for repeatable results.\n\nExtensibility SDK – add custom preview providers, metadata, validation rules, export actions, preview overlays, preview controls and asset classifiers. Project‑specific asset formats can participate in the same browser, preview, validation and export workflow.\n\nEditor‑only with zero build footprint – the tool is built on Unity's preview and asset‑database APIs, ships as full C# source and adds nothing to the player build.
