About UGTK - Games Toolkit for Unity
- Tools, Systems & Learning > Game Templates & Systems
- Theme > Retro & Arcade
- Audio > Music
- Art & Visuals > 2D
Most of it is a component you drop on a GameObject and configure in the Inspector. The bigger pieces - the visual novel framework, the 2D platformer framework, the quiz, the tic-tac-toe, the tournament bracket, the chat, the on-screen keyboard - come as prefabs and ScriptableObjects, with a demo scene each. The 2D platformer also comes with Lumen Woods, a finished six-level game made only with it, with original pixel art and music.
Two things you should know before buying. First: the 23 foundation systems are the free package "UGTK Core", and this package contains the very same files with the same GUIDs, so the two never duplicate code in a project. Second: a group of systems talk to a server you own (leaderboard, tickets, email, the WebSocket multiplayer). The SQL schema, the PHP endpoints and the WebSocket relay are in the package, but hosting them is your job. The list is below, read it first.
WHAT YOU NEED
• Unity 6 (6000.0) or newer, tested on 6000.0 and 6000.6. Built-in and URP; WebGL and mobile are first-class.
• Unity UI (com.unity.ugui) with the TextMeshPro essentials.
• Input System (com.unity.inputsystem), free, from Unity's registry. It asks to switch the active input handling and restart the editor: say yes.
• Newtonsoft Json (com.unity.nuget.newtonsoft-json), free, from Unity's registry. Used by WebSocketsSystem, VisualNovel and MessageSystem.
• On the first import a check tells you which of these is missing and offers to install them.
• Bundled third-party code, each under its own licence (full list in Third-Party Notices): NativeWebSocket (Apache 2.0), StandaloneFileBrowser (MIT), PHPMailer on the PHP side (LGPL 2.1).
• External services, each with your own key: timeapi.io for TimeOnlineSystem (no key, internet required, URL configurable), api.qrserver.com for the QrGenerator remote renderer, the Anthropic API for the optional Visual Novel story generator.
SERVER — READ THIS BEFORE BUYING
Some systems talk to a server you own. Everything for that side ships under Server~ (Unity ignores the folder): the MySQL schema, the PHP endpoints next to each system (any shared hosting with PHP 7.4+ and MySQL), and the WebSocket relay as TypeScript source for Bun or Node behind HTTPS.
• PHP server, endpoints shipped: LeaderboardSystem, Tickets, EmailSender, TableManagement.
• WebSocket relay, shipped: WebSocketsSystem, QrMultiplayerSystem, TournamentSystem online. Local mode needs nothing.
• An endpoint you write yourself: MessageSystem, ImagePhpManagment, the QrGenerator short-link flow.
• Everything else — most of the toolkit — works with no server at all.
Every default URL is a placeholder (your-server.com). Scores arrive from the client, so anyone who can read your build can forge them; the server README says what to add (a shared secret, rate limiting) if a prize is attached.
DOCUMENTATION
Every system has its own page, and wherever there is something to show the setup is a GIF rather than a wall of text. A generated dependency map tells you what each module pulls in, so you can delete what you do not use.
