About Sprite Animator
- Tools, Systems & Learning > Development Tools & Automation
It helps you create, organize, preview, and play frame-by-frame sprite animations using tags, presets, and a simple runtime API. It does not include a visual state machine; animation transitions are controlled by your own gameplay code, AI, input system, or custom state logic.
Main features:
- Dedicated Sprite Animation editor window
- Sprite Animator Controller asset
- Preset/skin support for visual variants
- Tag-based animations
- Frame carousel with drag, reorder, picker, and context menu actions
- Animated preview with timeline, play/pause, and zoom controls
- Runtime API for play, pause, resume, stop, speed, loop, reverse playback, start frame, and random start frame
- Runtime events for finished animations, loop changes, and frame changes
- Supports SpriteRenderer by default
- Optional Unity UI Image support when Unity UI is installed
- Demo scene and documentation included
Sprite Animator is not a visual state machine. It is designed for projects that prefer direct gameplay/code control over which animation should play. This makes it easy to integrate with your own input system, AI, combat system, movement logic, or custom state machine.
The package is customizable and genre-agnostic. It can be used in platformers, top-down games, RPGs, arcade games, prototypes, tools, and any Unity project that needs simple, organized sprite animation playback.
