About Persistent Asset: Inspector-Driven Save Framework

  • Tools, Systems & Learning > Game Templates & Systems
  • Tools, Systems & Learning > Development Tools & Automation
Persistent data should feel like a native Unity object, not a separate save system you have to architect around. Persistent Asset lets you create project assets whose content persists between play sessions. Each one comes with a manager you can configure to fit your game's needs. No save code required: all the complex machinery is hidden away. You keep full control: trigger or monitor any operation through a clean C# API. No forced workflow: designers tweak values, programmers read them in code, and tool engineers extend the system. Built to scale with your project. Features include saved data (classes, scene objects, references, spawned prefabs), scene objects (17 Unity components, 7 uGUI/TextMeshPro controls), existing ScriptableObjects, Persistent Variables (44 built-in types, enums, asset references), lists and maps, variable references, Prefs, no-code setup, UnityEvents, code hooks, class policies, extensibility, utilities (encryption, compression, atomic writes), Editor API, and Create menu. Capabilities include per platform storage, autosave, save slots, quick save, global access, sync or async, readiness, snapshots, reset, offline play, save conflicts, and player data requests. Reliability features include atomic writes, save on quit, failed loads handling, corrupt saves reporting, data migration, newer saves handling, setup changes, manager locking, operation queue, stable identity, portable saves, exception handling, timeouts/retries, build validation, and play mode support. Security includes encryption (AES-256, HMAC-SHA256), tamper detection, save anchoring, remote saves encryption, per-project key, type injection, and plain HTTP warnings. Performance includes threading, compression (gzip), lazy loading, no idle allocations, dirty tracking, and scene saves. Quality of Life includes clear inspectors, manager inspector, save overview window, persistent variables window, asset references window, test slot, store simulation, fresh start, separate editor saves, and no bloat. Content includes Core, Built-Ins, No-Code, Scene Objects, and Prefs modules. Storage locations include Prototype, Local File, Player Prefs, Server (HTTP), Cloud Save (UGS), Steam Cloud, Platform (Routing), Session (Memory), and Test. Backend services include PlayFab, Firebase, Supabase, Nakama, LootLocker, PocketBase, Appwrite, GraphQL, and more. Serialization includes Unity JSON, Newtonsoft JSON, Odin, MemoryPack, and Custom. Ready-to-Use GameObjects include uGUI and IMGUI entries. Documentation includes Quick Usage Guide, User Manual, Public API, AI skills, and Demo.
