KHS – Gwolnaegaksa(In-Palace Offices), Changdeokgung Palace
In-palace offices refer to the central administrative offices specially built within the palace grounds to serve the king nearby. The Yakbang ( royal infirmary), Okdang (Office of Special Advisors), and Yemungwan (Office of Administrative Affairs and Research) were behind Geumcheongyo Bridge, which is west of Injeongjeon Hall. To the west were Gyujanggak Library, Bongmodang Hall, and Geomseocheong Office. The present-day buildings were restored between 2000 and 2004.
To the north of Gyujanggak Library is a 750-year-old juniper tree. Juniper trees are used as incense material for rituals due to their pungent scents. They are often planted in gardens and parks. Its branches were spread in each direction, but the southern branch was cut off, and the north branch died. The east branch is deformed into a twisted shape.
