Darkline creatures are alien life forms that resemble black drawings made from thin, smooth lines or tangled, bold tentacles. Their distinctive appearance is created through the combined use of custom meshes and procedural shaders rather than pre-painted textures. The asset uses one tileable texture with URP Shader Graph, with an HDRP version also included, to generate a wide range of dynamic looks.
The shader provides controls for noise movement, animated line motion, bulge waves, light waves, thickness, emission, separate base color and emission hues, smoothness, metallic properties, normal randomness, texture movement, and texture scale. Texture movement can create a crawling effect across the lines, while additional alpha options are available in the HDRP version.
Shader features can be controlled through four mixable mask types:
- Along the lines
- By depth from the surface
- Randomly per line
- From head to limbs
Some channels, including thickness, also support additional limb and head-hair masks. These features can be combined to create many different appearances, ranging from dark nightmare creatures to stylized cybernetic wires.
