About Cinematic split screen interaction system
- Tools, Systems & Learning > Game Templates & Systems
The system activates when the player interacts with a gameplay object, such as a vault terminal, puzzle machine, control panel, or security system. Once activated, the screen smoothly transitions into multiple camera views, allowing the player to simultaneously observe both the interaction itself and the result of that interaction.
For example:
- A player enters a vault room
- Presses E to interact with a keypad
- The player camera smoothly moves to a cinematic close-up of the keypad
- A secondary camera displays the vault door reacting in real time
- The screen splits dynamically to show both perspectives together
The framework includes multiple display modes:
- Side-by-side split screen
- Top-bottom split screen
- Picture-in-picture mode
All layouts are customizable directly through the inspector.
The system is built with usability and performance in mind:
- Secondary cameras activate only during interactions
- Layer-based rendering reduces unnecessary rendering cost
- Lightweight UI keeps runtime overhead low
- Stable viewport transition logic minimizes rendering artifacts
Additional features include:
- Smooth camera blending
- Interaction prompts
- Player movement locking during interaction
- Escape-to-exit support
- Cinematic camera target framing
- Inspector-driven workflow for quick setup
The package is modular and reusable, making it suitable for many gameplay scenarios including:
- Puzzle mechanics
- Security systems
- CCTV monitors
- Hacking terminals
- Reactor controls
- Sci-fi interfaces
- Observation gameplay
- Horror interaction systems
Whether used in indie projects, technical art workflows, gameplay prototypes, or production-ready mechanics, the Cinematic Split Interaction System provides an easy and scalable way to create cinematic gameplay interactions inside Unity.
