About Chunk Loader 2D
- Tools, Systems & Learning > Development Tools & Automation
- Tools, Systems & Learning > Level & World Building
• Weighted Random. Assign a spawn weight to each chunk prefab. Higher weights increase the relative probability of that chunk being selected, allowing you to create randomized worlds with controlled distributions.
• Deterministic Seed. Use a custom seed to generate a reproducible world. The same seed and configuration produce the same chunk layout, making this mode suitable for repeatable worlds and player defined seeds.
• Perlin Noise. Generate spatially coherent chunk distributions using Perlin noise. Configure scale, octaves, persistence, lacunarity, and offset, then assign Perlin value ranges to your chunk prefabs. Overlapping ranges allow multiple chunk types to be eligible at the same noise value.
Chunk Streaming
ChunkLoader2D calculates the player's current chunk and maintains a configurable preload radius around it.
When chunks move outside the active radius, you can choose between:
• Keep. Generated chunks remain active.
• Deactivate. Chunks are deactivated and reactivated when revisited.
• Destroy. Chunks are destroyed and regenerated when needed.
Seed and Perlin generated chunks can be deterministically regenerated when revisited.
Runtime API
The runtime API allows your own systems to interact with ChunkLoader2D programmatically, making it possible to integrate chunk streaming into custom gameplay, world systems, and other runtime logic.
