About Apple Input Bridge

  • Tools, Systems & Learning > Development Tools & Automation
Apple Input Bridge lets Unity projects keep ordinary Input System Mouse and Keyboard bindings while receiving physical mouse, trackpad, and hardware-keyboard input from public Apple APIs. Install the package and the bridge starts automatically; no prefab, scene component, replacement Input Actions, or manual Xcode editing is required.

Built for desktop-style control on Apple mobile devices, it preserves fast input through a bounded native event queue with final-state resynchronization. Project settings, runtime status, an Editor simulator, and a guided on-device validation sample keep setup and troubleshooting visible.

Included workflows
• Mouse and trackpad absolute position, raw relative motion, vertical and horizontal scrolling, and reported left, right, middle, back, and forward buttons.
• Hardware-keyboard letters, digits, punctuation, navigation, modifiers, F1-F12, numeric-keypad input, held keys, chords, and rapid transitions.
• Full iPadOS pointer support with pointer-lock request and observed lock state.
• iPhone mouse and trackpad compatibility through user-enabled AssistiveTouch; hardware keyboards work without AssistiveTouch.
• Zero-code automatic startup with an explicit public lifecycle API.
• Project Settings controls for sensitivity, relative-Y behavior, screen clamping, and source-aware diagnostics.
• Editor simulation for the full iPad and iPhone AssistiveTouch profiles.
• Automatic iOS postprocessing for indirect-input events, Game Controller linkage, and the iOS 14 deployment target.
• One independently importable Package Manager sample with a touch-safe, device-aware validation workflow and persistent JSON reports.
• Comprehensive offline documentation covering setup, compatibility, privacy, troubleshooting, and API use.

Requirements and compatibility
• Unity 6000.0 or newer.
• Unity Input System 1.8.1 or newer.
• iOS or iPadOS 14.0 or newer with IL2CPP.
• Built-in Render Pipeline, URP, and HDRP projects are supported because the bridge is rendering-pipeline independent.
• Unity development is supported on Windows, macOS, and Linux when the required iOS Build Support module is installed. Final local Xcode compilation, signing, installation, and physical-device validation require macOS with Xcode.
• The 26.8.5 implementation passed its EditMode and PlayMode suites across tested Unity 6000.0, 6000.4, 6000.5, and 6000.7 editor versions. The exact release also passed guided physical validation on iPad and iPhone. The Unity 6000.7 result used a prerelease editor and is compatibility evidence, not a guarantee for a future final patch.

On iPhone, mouse and trackpad input requires the user to enable AssistiveTouch in Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch. Apps cannot enable this user-controlled setting, and iPhone does not expose true system pointer lock. On iPad, pointer lock remains an operating-system decision and may be declined. Optional buttons and horizontal scrolling depend on the connected hardware.

Dependencies
The package manifest declares Unity Input System 1.8.1. UIKit and Game Controller are public Apple SDK frameworks supplied by the platform. No other Asset Store product is required, and the package performs no network access or telemetry.
